Taunton, MA …Today on Tax Day Taunton City Councilor and candidate for the State Senate Kelly Dooner announced that she has signed the “No New Taxes Pledge” committing to protect taxpayers.
“People in Massachusetts pay enough in taxes. As the next State Senator, I am going to protect people’s wallets. It is time to end our state’s nickname Taxachusetts. That’s why I have signed the ‘No New Taxes’ pledge to show my commitment to helping families, veterans, and seniors who are struggling due to high inflation,” said Dooner.
Dooner, who has outraised her opponents last month, is the only candidate who has signed the pledge.
“Massachusetts was recently listed as the 5th worst state for businesses and taxes is one of the reasons. Our economy is starting to sag. We need to lower taxes so we can entice more businesses into Massachusetts and stop 1100 people from leaving our state each week as economic refugees. Working with Mayor O’Connell, Taunton has created a business friendly environment where 171 new businesses registered last year in the city. I know I can help make the necessary reforms at the State House,” said Dooner.
The pledge states that Dooner will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes.
Dooner was elected to the Taunton City Council in 2021 being the youngest woman ever elected to the City Council. She has served as the President of the City Council, worked to make Taunton a Purple Heart City, worked with Mayor O’Connell on doubling the Senior Tax Credit, and helped bring a commonsense voice to the city’s financial issues. Dooner is also an elected member of the Taunton Planning Board.
Dooner is a lifelong resident of Massachusetts. She earned her paralegal certificate in applied legal studies at Boston University. Dooner has been actively involved in the Massachusetts Young Republicans serving on their Executive Board as the National State Committeewoman and is a member of the New England Young Conservatives.
